ACTIVITY CERTIFICATE
An activity title is required to perform an activity in the jewellery sector.
A simple prior notification must be submitted to obtain the title for each activity, for each establishment or type of sale without establishment.
The following activities provided for in current legislation may be performed by certified economic operators:
- Industrial goldsmith – Produces articles of precious metal for sale in a factory or workshop. Applicable CAE (Economic Activities Code): 32122, 32121, 26520
- Artist – Designs and produces single or limited edition articles of precious metal, containing a maximum of 10% of precious metal, with a production limit of 15 articles per year, provided they are not for personal decoration, intended for sale. Applicable CAE (Economic Activities Code): 32122, 32121, 26520, 90030.
- Jewellery Retailer (with establishment) – Selling articles of precious metal, articles of special interest and used articles to the public, at an establishment. Applicable CAE (Economic Activities Code): 47770
- Jewellery retailer (no establishment) – Selling articles of precious metals, articles of special interest and used articles directly to the public, by other regular methods, specifically at fairs (CAE 47890), with catalogues (CAE 47910), through a website (CAE 47910), as a street trader (CAE 47890), means of distance communication (CAE 47910) and others (CAE 47910).
- Retailer for the purchase and sale of used articles of precious metal – Purchases and sells directly to the public, as a main or secondary activity, used articles of precious metal, and sells sub-products resulting from the casting of articles of precious metal, at an establishment open to the public. Applicable CAE (Economic Activities Code): 47770
- Jewellery wholesaler – Purchases articles of precious metal for export and sale to other economic operators. Applicable CAE (Economic Activities Code): 46480, 46771.
- Lender – Exhibits and sells directly to the public articles of precious metal and coins of precious metal from collateral (acquired at auction), in addition to the activity of loans guaranteed by collateral. Applicable CAE (Economic Activities Code): 64923
- Melter-assayer – Refines, casts and assays bars or sheets of precious metals, in workshops and laboratories authorised by law, intended for supply to other economic operators. Applicable CAE (Economic Activities Code): 24540, 24410
SIMPLE PRIOR NOTIFICATION
The economic operator must submit by email or hand in person the form and attach all documents requested in it.ENDORSEMENT
The economic operator must notify the Assay Office of any change to elements shown on the activity title, for endorsement purposes, using the form provided for this purpose.
It must also notify the Assay Offices of the cancellation of the activity title.
